The aim of the Unit is to help each child, through their play to develop skills and gain knowledge, which will be relevant to their future. We strive to achieve this by creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere of trust and happiness, where all children feel secure and cared for.
Children enter our Reception (F2) class in the September following their fourth birthday. They continue to follow the Foundation Stage curriculum that began in Nursery (F1). The Foundation Stage provides children with a wide range of fun, exciting and stimulating experiences, in large and small groups, both indoors and out, across the seven areas of learning which are:
- Personal, Social and Emotional development
- Physical development
- Communication and language
- Expressive arts, and
- Understanding the world.
The children undertake a wide range of challenging and enjoyable activities which enhance their physical, emotional, social and intellectual development. They have a full range of opportunities for creative and reflective play which are carefully planned and assessed. Adult-led, focused work also enables teaching staff to develop the children's learning further, teaching skills that the children can embed and build upon through their own investigative, child-initiated play.
The children are encouraged to develop as learners and individuals in an environment that is welcoming, engaging and supportive.
Happiness underpins our philosophy for these young chidlren as we strive to develop their confidence and independence.
