Welcome to Class 1!
Year 1 is taught by Mrs Wallis and Mrs Stone. We also have lots of help from our fantastic teaching assistants - Mrs Roebuck and Mrs Tuska.
In Class 1, we move to a more structured form of learning. We now spend more time on focused tasks, especially in the mornings, but still have time for lots of fun!
All our learning is delivered through a creative curriculum where we have the opportunity to transfer our knowledge and skills across different subjects and apply it to new experiences.
In our maths work, we continue to build on all the basic number concepts of adding and subtracting before moving on to multiplication. We enjoy lots of practical maths activities too!
In English, we encourage the children to "have a go". We want to build confidence, so that they enjoy their writing experiences without worrying about if it is always correct.
At Key Stage 1, there is great emphasis on the teaching of phonics and reading. We use the Read, Write Inc phonics programme to help the children to become more independent readers and writers.
We aim to develop a love of reading and, therefore, encourage the children to take books home and share them with you.
We have so much fun learning about lots of different topics and we like to get mums, dads and wider family involved too!
This year we will be finding out all about :
